5. Conclusion

5.1 Summary of findings
The presence of a magnetic field affects the growth of zinc sulfate crystals, in terms of structure and size. However, the difference in weight of the crystals is only 21 grams, which is a minor difference. Zinc sulfate crystals grown in the presence of a magnetic field were smaller, clearer and more structured in an organised way than those, which grew without magnetic field.

5.2 Practical Applications
Zinc sulfate crystals are used in the manufacturing process for making rayon. Rayon fiber is then used in the manufacturing of tires, rubber hoses and industrial belts. Zinc sulfate is used along with sulfuric acid to produce electricity. It has also been found to be effective in the removal of moss stains on roofs because it will not stain or corrode aluminum or gutters. Moreover, they are important in agricultural fungicides and is used to protect a wide range of products including cotton and wheat. A solution of zinc sulfate sprayed on soil can increase crop yields. Zinc sulfate is also used in animal feed to increase appetite, control blood disorders and bone disease and prevent premature death. (Epstein)

5.3 Areas for further study

The structure of the zinc sulfate crystals can be further investigated using a microscope for a deeper understanding on how the magnetic field particularly affected the formation and the structure of the crystals, as different crystals are known to have different types of structures. For example, zinc sulfate crystals may have a hexahydrate, monohydrate or heptahydrate structure. Using a microscope, it can be observed if the structure of the zinc sulfate crystals was changed.
